Although this is obviously a sweet wine, there’s an immediately more savoury and spicy note in the aroma, a more spicy minerality, compared with the Kirchspiel Auslese 2019. Still with intense, pure ripe citrus and a kick of herbs. Complex and layered, revealing different faces as it opens. On the palate, this feels lighter, more bouncy than the Kirchspiel, cooler and zippier. Tastes almost like a Kabinett in its bright and lively intensity even though there’s that spice on the aftertaste and much more residual sugar. More delicate on the palate than a typical Auslese. Amazing length for a wine that is so vibrant and full of life. As it warms in the glass, it fills the mouth and lingers on and on.
Picked at 114 Oechsle, from a parcel that is stony and poor, with high limestone content. Lots of millerandage and thus small berries. Cask sample.
