With Weissburgunder and Grauburgunder in his Grosse Gewächse portfolio one might wonder whether Huber needs Chardonnay as well, but even just the smell of the Schlossberg exhibits a completely different expression from the two Pinots. The fragrance embraces citrus fruit, herbaceous aromas, rhubarb and mint, leading to an interpretation of Chardonnay which banks on freshness and vibrancy. Smoky and nutty nuances are delivered with great subtlety to add a little spice to the almost steely purity of fruit. The customary notion of flinty-smoky minerality does not fail to make an appearance on the long finish.
