Medium to deep shade of purple right to the rim. Bombacher has nothing to do with bombastic, but this is the most massive and compact of Huber’s Grosse Gewächse. Depth, intensity and concentration made me use the expression 'monster', but probably more helpful are the observations of chocolate, spices, white pepper and a wealth of red fruit. A solid framework of oak supplies a firm tannic backbone and there can be no doubt that this is absolutely a long-distance champion. I tasted and drank a Huber Reserve 1990 in 2009 with an eminent German wine critic and we were both bowled over. I hope that I will still be able to hold a glass when this is ready!
