There are many who regard the Abtserde as the jewel in the crown of Keller’s Grosse Gewächse, and if you are an ardent admirer of the mineral aspect, this view would be well justified. The contribution of fruit is a little more restrained in 2013, leaving room for a profound herbal expression to add complexity. As always in challenging vintages Keller has managed to accumulate an incredible amount of extract which does give the Abtserde a very generous texture and almost Burgundian character.
