Melissa spirits used to be (and probably still are) a spirity herbal remedy for the relief of stress and headaches, and the fragrance of the Oelsberg reminds me of this almost forgotten herbal aroma. On the palate it takes the more familiar expression of an eau-de-vie de poire, quite oily in texture and low in acidity. Nevertheless it deserves to be noted for its very idiosyncratic character. However, to get the best out of this Grosses Gewächs, it would need to be served well chilled.
