Medium depth, raspberry red with pink rim. The Centgrafenberg R always has one of the most exquisite noses of the Spätburgunder scene. It does not hit you with power and pungency, but entices and intrigues with subtle aromas of bonfire smoke, sandalwood spices, fruit of the forest and a hint of chocolate. Though the tannins and acidity of the young Centgrafenberg are not shy to assert themselves, they do leave enough room for the described aromas to return as delicate flavours on the palate. It’s one of the not-so-old clichés that a wine is made in the vineyard, but when you experience power, elegance and complexity all in one and the same wine, you begin to understand the philosophy that a grower is part of the terroir.
