(By Request) 2009 Stigler Ihringer Winklerberg Backofele Spatburgunder Grosses Gewachs Baden JR15.5
A very unusual fragrance of lavender bears more than a passing resemblance to some of the garrigue aromas of red wines from Provence. The flavour is also quite idiosyncratic with some pronounced herbal and flowery influences. I remain undecided whether it’s down to terroir or oak. ‘Little baking oven’ is the translation of Backöfele, but here something has been baking for just a little too long to produce a slightly burned aroma. This spoils a quite promising entrée of fresh cherry fruit and initially pleasant and gentle flavour.
